Instant World Orchestra and Elf Mode

The Instant World Orchestra, led by Richard Ormrod is an ensemble playing fantastic groove-led music inspired by the great musical traditions of the world: from Cuba to Cape Town, and from Kingston to Kabul. The orchestra has been rehearsing every Sunday at Northlight – this will be their first performance.

Elf Mode is a new Leeds based jazz fusion band featuring some familiar faces – saxophonist Emma Coates and electric bass player Jarred Dean, keys player Liam Mason, guitarist Harry Souter and drummer Herbie Underwood. They first formed at Leeds Conservatoire towards the end of 2022 and together, they make fiery tunes with spicy grooves and heavy beats. Taking notes from 90s jazz artists like Joshua Redman as well as contemporary British jazz like Waaju, their music is filled to the brim with hard-hitting lines over dynamic textures and powered electric energy.
