Duke Special

Duke Special arrives at Seven Arts in Leeds on Fri 31st August to headline the Folk Roots Fringe at Chapel Allerton Arts Festival fresh from sharing stage at the Victorious Festival 2018 with The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs, Gabrielle Aplin, Paul Weller, Gomez, Happy Mondays, Billy Bragg and Lightning Seeds.

Duke Special is based in Belfast. A piano-based songwriter with a romantic style and a warm, distinctly accented voice, he has distinctive long dreadlocks, eyeliner and outfits he describes as "hobo chic". His live performances are inspired by Vaudeville and music hall blending his Irish-folk roots with musical theatrics and brutalised romanticism.

In 2006, he signed to V2 Records and released the album, Songs from the Deep Forest. He as soon to be featured on Later... with Jools Holland alongside Amy Winehouse and John Legend.

He has since performed at many summer festivals and played on the O2 stage at Oxegen. He also supported the Crowded House tour, culminating with a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. He then collaborated with Celtic group Clannad, appearing on the album Nádúr and performing on Irish television chat show The Late Late Show and on Terry Wogan's BBC Radio 3 show. And as part of the BBC Electric Proms he supported former Kinks lead singer Ray Davies.

He has as well appeared in the Northern Ireland children's television show Sesame Tree, having also written the theme music for the show. He also wrote music for a number of songs as part of a Bertolt Brecht production for which he appeared on stage at the Royal National Theatre in London.

Duke Special’s Oh Pioneer release reached No. 3 on the Singer/Songwriter iTunes chart in Ireland and No. 7 in the UK. His latest album is named Hallow, based on the poetry of Michael Longley.

Duke Special has been nominated for the Meteor Music Awards for best newcomer, and best album for Songs from the Deep Forest. Recently he won the Meteor Music Award for Best Irish Male.

Feathers McGraw

Feathers McGraw are: Barney Tabor, a classically trained fiend and vagabond, Robin Timmis, a fiddle-toting dervish and musical force of nature, and Alex Chadha, a charity shop chord-man of the worst stripe. An enthusiastic trio, you may have seen them stomping down the Rocky Road to Dublin, or bemoaning their recent transportation to Tasmania, betrayed by a lady of the night, but, however afflicted, you'll no doubt have enjoyed their lack of professionalism and frank disregard for the dense jungles of originality. Performing an array of folk classics, as well as their own vibrant compositions, Feathers McGraw will not only arouse your suspicions, tickle your curiosities, but also get you stamping your feet, bellowing along, and cheering with undiminished joy when they finally get off the stage and leave you in peace.

QUOTES
